About Dr. Chang
Dr. Chang has been caring for patients and families for more than 30 years. She believes in treating the whole person—body, mind, and lifestyle—so patients can feel and live their best over the long term. With additional training in psychiatry, addiction medicine, and pain management, she brings a thoughtful, integrated, and caring approach to every visit.
Her patients describe her as dedicated, compassionate, caring, and thorough. Dr. Chang is highly experienced in diabetes care, care coordination, and simplifying complex polypharmacy, with a strong emphasis on safety, clarity, and patient understanding. She is known for clear, empathetic communication, strong diagnostic judgment, and a focus on prevention and early intervention, working with each patient to create a plan that fits their goals, work, family responsibilities, and daily life.
Practice & Community
Dr. Chang is employed by MLK Community Health, where she partners closely with the UNITE HERE union to care for hospitality and service workers in Los Angeles. She understands the unique realities of this work—long hours, physical demands, variable schedules, and complex family and financial pressures—and tailors caring, coordinated, relationship‑based primary care with these factors in mind.
Rather than focusing only on lab values, imaging reports, or individual diagnoses, Dr. Chang pays attention to outcomes that matter in the whole person’s life: energy, function, mood, pain, and the ability to work and care for family. Through collaboration with the MLK Community Health team and UNITE HERE benefits staff, she helps patients navigate pharmacy issues, insurance requirements, and other system processes, aiming to reduce unnecessary hurdles and support meaningful, lasting progress in health.
Care Philosophy
Our goal is to provide safe, effective care that fits your life.
We use the best available medical evidence to decide when tests, referrals, or medicines will actually help you, and we avoid doing things that add risk or cost without clear benefit.
Please share your concerns and goals openly, bring your medications or list, and tell us what has or has not worked in the past. If we recommend a different test, treatment, or medication than you expected, we will explain why, and we ask that you keep an open mind as we decide together.

Tests and imaging: Not every problem needs an X‑ray, MRI, or blood test. When these are unlikely to change treatment, they can expose you to radiation, false alarms, extra procedures, and cost, so I may recommend watchful waiting or simpler options instead.
Referrals: Many issues can be safely managed in primary or specialty care without seeing multiple other specialists. I will refer you when another expert is truly needed or when guidelines suggest it will improve your outcome.
Medications: I may adjust your medications to match current evidence, your risk factors, insurance coverage, and side‑effect profile. Different does not mean worse; the goal is the right medicine for you.
Outside of Medicine
Outside of her medical practices, Dr. Chang is mom to two adult children and two dogs, enjoys hiking nature, art, culture, local travels.
